Pate Marine Community Conservancy (PMCC) has made significant strides in its mission to protect our coastal treasures and enhance the well-being of local communities. Through our dedication and collaborative efforts, we’ve achieved remarkable impact in several key areas: 

ONE

1. Community Empowerment

Fisheries Management We've improved the sustainability of fisheries by implementing by-laws and registration certificates for all 10 Beach Management Units (BMUs) in Pate.
Outboard Engine Revolving Fund: Through this initiative, we've provided boats to local fishermen, benefiting both their livelihoods and the responsible management of our fisheries.
Community Plastic Waste Management: Together with KEMFSED, we're tackling the issue of marine litter and community plastic waste, making our island cleaner and safer.

2. Conservation of Marine Wildlife

Sea Turtles: We've played a vital role in safeguarding the nesting grounds of endangered sea turtles along our shores, contributing to their conservation.
Dugongs: Our efforts have contributed to the protection of dugongs, the gentle giants of our coastal waters, ensuring their continued presence.
Dolphin Protection: We've actively worked to protect and conserve the populations of dolphins that grace our oceans.

3. Marine and Coastal Ecosystems

Mangrove Restoration: We've planted over 80,000 mangroves, with an impressive growth rate of over 75%, helping to restore and protect critical coastal habitats.
Coral Reef Rehabilitation: Our coral reef restoration projects have enhanced the resilience of these delicate ecosystems.

4. Clean Water Access

Solar-Powered Desalination Unit: With the support of WSTF, we're in the process of procuring and installing a solar-powered water desalination unit, providing clean water to the community in Mtangawanda.

5. Education and Empowerment

Women Microfinance Programs: We've empowered local women through various phases of microfinance programs, providing training on entrepreneurship skills and financial literacy.
Ranger Training: We've equipped our rangers with essential skills, tools, and digital communication, ensuring effective wildlife and resource protection. PMCC's impact extends beyond these achievements, touching on various aspects of our community's livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and marine conservation. We continue to work towards a future where nature and communities thrive together.
