The Fish to Market Pilot Project was a significant milestone at Pate Marine Community Conservancy (PMCC), representing a completed project that left a lasting impact on the lives of local fishermen and the entire community. This transformative initiative spanned various locations, including Mombasa, Nyali, Shanga Ishakani, Pate, and Shanga Rubu, and demonstrated the power of partnerships and innovative solutions.

Securing a Valuable Partnership:

Through this project, PMCC successfully secured a partnership with KUMBATIA Seafoods, a reliable and eager buyer for the catches of local fishermen. This collaboration ensured that the hard work of our fishermen would not go unnoticed or underappreciated.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):

To formalize and strengthen the partnership with KUMBATIA Seafoods, PMCC and the seafood buyer developed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This document outlined the terms of cooperation, creating a framework that benefited both the fishermen and the buyer. It was a testament to our commitment to fair and transparent business practices.

Empowering Fishers:

As a result of the Fish to Market Pilot Project, local fishers gained access to broader markets, including Mombasa and Nyali. This access significantly improved their income and provided a more sustainable source of livelihood. Fishermen were no longer limited to local markets; they could now tap into the demand of larger urban centers.

Strengthening Local Fisheries:

Beyond the immediate economic impact, the project contributed to the strengthening of local fisheries. By creating opportunities for fishermen to sell their catches to broader markets, it encouraged responsible and sustainable fishing practices. This was a win-win scenario where the environment and the community both thrived.

The Fish to Market Pilot Project continues to serve as a testament to our commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development. Its legacy endures, benefiting local fishermen and the broader community, illustrating the positive ripple effect of innovative initiatives and successful partnerships.
